We are a blended family located out in Cape Town- Western Cape.
Our family is made of of myself, my husband and our three boys, my two eldest sons also have another brother from my ex husband.
My husband and I met when I was 15 years old but it took many years and a failed marriage on my side for us to reconnect, we started a relationship after my second son was born and have since married, I gave birth to my youngest a year after we walked down the isle, during our relationship we experienced 3 losses before my youngest was born, my youngest son was our true rainbow and completed our family so perfectly, after my youngest was born I experience health issues that led to a hysterectomy and thus our family is truly complete.
My eldest son has been diagnosed thus far with ADHD, ASD, ODD, and quite recently after an in patient admittance Conduct Disorder and Psychopathy, he has tested at the level of Superior IQ, he is currently home schooled. He has attended a standard government school, private schooling as well as tutor centers and has struggled to adapt to any of the above, we started down the road with the use of homeopathic medications, we changed his diet, incorporated strict routines and structure, we also started out in the private sector for therapy and have since moved over to government although his recent admittance has meant incorporating the private sector as well. We have seen every specialist starting with an educational psychologist we then moved to an occupational therapist and specialist pediatrician where he was diagnosed, we then moved on incorporating psychologists, psychiatrists, trauma chancellors, facilitators and even social workers into our team of specialists. Our journey with my son has been long and incredibly heartbreaking and unfortunately he is reliant on chemical medications and constant therapies. We have had to fight every step of the way for every single diagnosis and avenue of support and help. My son has been on the receiving end of sexual trauma he has unfortunately also been on the giving end, he has been bullied severely and has been the bully, every which way, everything you could possibly think of we know the pain, we feel the struggle and we have refused to just let it slide, let it be or to give up!
My second eldest son has been diagnosed with ADHD and displays all the signs of sensory processing disorder, he attends a cottage school and is currently coping within capable parameters without meds, we do make use of homeopathic boosters for him but thus far the loving and supportive environment his school provides as well as our amazing support system has allowed him to blossom and thrive. He is a self professed Drama Llama and gaming addict.
My youngest thus far has shown no signs or symptoms of any of the above he has a keen intellect and a love of mischief and learning.
Our life is a mixture of chaos and extremes- heartbreak and overwhelming happiness, losses and triumphs, this is us in all of our raw and open madness, we will always fight we will never stand down or give up on those we love and we are incredibly grateful to have our tribe of overwhelming support, it is something not many have and I am very aware of it.
